Smuggling 15,410 Ecstasy Items from Malaysia Failed by the BNN
BuletinNasional. The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) arrested four members of a narcotics syndicate that would smuggle 15,410 ecstasy items. The BNN calls the ecstasy originating from Malaysia.
BNN Deputy Eradication Inspector General Arman Depari explained their team's suspicions began with information on smuggling ecstasy through Tanjung Pinang. Assisted by Customs and Excise, they arrested four suspects who were carried out separately.
"The results of our operations are cases of smuggling of ecstasy from Malaysia entering from Tanjung Pinang," Arman said at a press conference at the BNN office in Cawang, East Jakarta, Wednesday
According to Arman, the mode used by the suspects was to smuggle thousands of ecstasy by attaching packages containing ecstasy to the stomach of one of the suspects. The ecstasy package is then covered again with a corset.
The National Narcotics Agency said the suspects could be charged under Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics Article 114 paragraph (2), Article 112 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1). The maximum penalty waiting for them is the death sentence.
Chronology
The arrest originated from information about the smuggling of Dutch ecstasy through Port Klang, Malaysia. Then, the suspects transport narcotics using a ship from Tanjung Pinang to Surabaya.
When leaning on Tanjung Priok, a joint team of BNN and Customs arrested three people namely Saiful Pagala, Fitriani Marsela, and Asmanto. The evidence found by the authorities at that time was 11 packs of ecstasy totaling 15,410 items.
The officer then continued the operation towards Surabaya. In a hotel, they managed to buy a man named Ismawan Widya Sugara. This man was called by the BNN as a courier who would pick up the ecstasy shipment from Asmanto's hand. All of these movements are called by the BNN driven by someone in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi.
"So that the total number of suspects is four people with evidence of approximately 20 thousand ecstasy grains orange and blue," said Arman.
Arman said his side is still exploring further about this network. He promised to immediately reveal the parties involved in this case.
