Grace Is Judged Even Makes Gaduh, About His Statement About Polygamy

RakyatUtama. The statement of the Chairperson of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Grace Natalie over the rejection of her party on polygamy activities was considered to be adding to the commotion in the community.
"What he said was actually increasing the debate among the people," Mochammad Yunus, Secretary General of the United Islamic Movement (GUIB), said on Wednesday.

Yunus said the PSI's rejection of the practice of polygamy was an attitude that was contrary to adat which had existed since long ago in Indonesia.
"That means he is opposed to what has been local wisdom in the community. Because customs in each region in each community group certainly must be different." said Yunus.

According to him, polygamy at the level of some Indonesian people has become a tradition, it is evidenced by the existence of a number of families who implement the practice.
Not only that, even, said Yunus, the practice of polygamy was further strengthened based on a number of national figures also doing it.

Yunus said in Islam itself, polygamy is not something that is prohibited, as long as in practice it did not come out of the Shari'a-Shari'a.
"Polygamy is not something that is prohibited. The prohibited ones are khamar (liquor), cults, and prostitution," he said, exemplifying a number of things that are forbidden in Islam.

Previously, Ketum PSI Grace Natalie said that the party she led would never tolerate or even support the practice of polygamy.

"PSI will never support polygamy. There will be no cadres, administrators and legislators from this party who can practice polygamy," Grace said, in Surabaya, Tuesday.

Not only that, he said, PSI would also fight for the imposition of a ban on polygamy for public officials at the executive, legislative and judicial levels. The same thing will be fought for for the state civil apparatus (ASN).

"We will fight for a revision of Law No. 1 of 1974, which allows polygamy," Grace said.

Responding to this, Yunus also said that Grace and PSI should be able to find out more deeply and dialogue first about the practice of polygamy, before throwing the stigma into society.
